Surprise Vehicle Donation Strengthens DRRSD’s Automotive Program and Student Pathways

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, in partnership with Ford Motor Company representatives from Michigan and Tasca Ford, celebrated a milestone today with the unveiling of a donated vehicle that will immediately strengthen the district’s Automotive Technology program at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School.

The celebration brought together state and local leaders, including Regina Robinson, Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE); Senator Kelly Dooner; Representative Steve Howitt; Representative Justin Thurber; and Catarina Pereira, representing Congressman Jake Auchincloss. They joined School Committee members, selectmen, community leaders, and families to witness the unveiling alongside students.

“This donation from Ford is more than a gift—it’s a symbol of trust and collaboration,” said Superintendent Bill Runey. “When I came to Dighton-Rehoboth, I made a commitment to rebuild trust and forge partnerships that would expand opportunities for kids. Today, we see that commitment realized. This moment exemplifies our DRiving Toward 2030 vision—Empowering educators, Igniting student learning, and Shaping pathways to success.”

That sense of partnership was echoed by Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School Principal Dustin Demers, who remarked, “This partnership is a powerful example of what can happen when education, industry, and community come together. It elevates not just our CTE program, but our comprehensive high school as a whole.”

Highlighting the impact for students, CTE Director Mike Strojny added, “Our students now have immediate access to advanced automotive technology. This is the kind of real-world experience that inspires confidence, builds skills, and prepares graduates to thrive in today’s workforce.”

In addition to Ford’s corporate representatives, the district recognized the support of Michael Tasca Sr., owner of Tasca Ford, whose leadership and advocacy for local partnerships continue to drive opportunity for students.

The unveiling, facilitated by a “ribbon breaking” as Auto instructor, Michael Inman, drove the Explorer through a big gold bow on a green ribbon, was cheered on by students and families. This event showcased how industry-education partnerships can prepare young people for both college and career success, reinforcing the district’s commitment to its DRiving Toward 2030 strategic plan.
