Get ready, Class of 2039 — we can’t wait to meet you! Join us at Dighton Elementary School for our Annual Kindergarten Information Night and Open House. This is your chance to get an inside look at everything kindergarten has to offer. We’ll walk you through our exciting curriculum and give you a glimpse into a typical day in the life of a Dighton Elementary kindergarten student. You’ll meet our amazing teachers, support staff, and administration, explore the building, and get all the details about registration and scheduling your child’s June screening appointment. Kindergarten is just around the corner, and this is the perfect first step. We’re excited to welcome our newest learners and their families — don’t miss it! Can’t make it? Don’t worry! All families who completed the town census this year will receive an information packet by mail from the school. New to town? Reach out by phone at 508-669-4245 or email our Administrative Assistant Ms. Caldeira at kcaldeira@drregional.org — we’re happy to help!

These amazing students were recognized for showing kindness, helping others, and making positive choices. They earned their 💚 We Are DR bracelets and a 📚 token for the book vending machine — what a great way to celebrate doing the right thing!

Way to go, Eagles! Keep spreading kindness and positivity! 💚✨

Superintendent Runey was recently interviewed by WJAR/Turn to 10 as part of a broader conversation on recent studies showing statewide enrollment declines. In the interview, he shares how Dighton-Rehoboth is responding proactively by reengaging families and expanding opportunities for students through academics, Early College classes, CTE pathways, and strong arts and athletic programs. #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS 🎥 Watch the interview: https://youtu.be/M70aNNEN9Iw

Happy Holidays

I graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 1965 and went on to Northeastern University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts as a math major while playing four years on the men’s basketball team. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Hopkins, and soon after began my career in education. I taught mathematics and coached freshmen basketball at Somerset High School from 1970 to 1973.

In 1973, Superintendent Joseph C. Harrington hired me to return to DRRHS as a math teacher and boys’ basketball coach. I spent the next 24 years on the sidelines, and in 1990, I was honored to serve as President of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches’ Association. I also completed my Master of Education in School Administration from Bridgewater State University in 1984 and served as Mathematics Department Head from 1991 to 1995.

From 1997 to 2002, I served as Assistant Principal at DRRHS before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, where I worked until my retirement in 2006. Along the way, I also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.

Liz and I raised two children who make us incredibly proud: Erika (DRRHS 1995, Duke University 1999) and Steven (DRRHS 2002, Western New England University 2006). Our greatest joy now comes from our four grandchildren—Benjamin, Emerson, Matthew, and Annie—who fill our lives with energy and laughter.

In retirement, I enjoy golf, fishing, and staying connected to the community. In 2025, I was proud to return once more to DRRHS as a member of the branding committee for the high school’s new visual identity.

Looking back, I am grateful for a career centered on education, athletics, and service—and for the family and community that have supported me throughout the journey.
